 “The cabinet minister complained that he had been trying to persuade No 10 to let veterans use their IDs at polling stations “for months without success”. He said he had found out the plans had been blocked by the prime minister’s special advisers because they could “open the floodgates” to allow students to use their cards too. In the event some veterans were turned away from polling stations when they went to vote. No 10, he said, was failing to listen to him and other MPs. “Feels like even I cannot have any impact on the grid/ government comms,” he said.

The minister talks about how he campaigned “for months without success” for veterans to be able to use their IDs at polling stations, but the plans had been blocked. Why? Because they could “open the floodgates” to allow students to use their cards too. [2] Now why might the Government want to stop students being able to more easily vote?

Voting is a fundamental right but last year, 14,000 people in England were turned away from polling stations and denied their vote due to the introduction of voter ID. [5]

14,000 missed votes could have been enough to change the result in as many as 16 constituencies in the next general election. [6] AND that’s not all, the official elections watchdog warned that the real number of people turned away is likely to be even higher. the Id system was designed deliberately to exclude as many people of voting age as possible so that each of the major party’s could safely rely on the bases of their membership to secure an election win that suites the ruling class and this is being further reinforced by the use of algorithms that identify who needs to be excluded and disenfranchised in order to continued to maintained the current two party system. The system has no longer at its roots the philosophy of one person one vote.
