Thoughts driven by the planed tube strike in London
The future is not new technology the future is people and jobs thank god the underground is going on strike to help the disabled and make the London under [45 year old only and fit if you want to survive the London underground most days its to crowded for those not so fit and able even though they get a free travel pass ] ground is still a place you can feel safe because there are staff around the call center model of life is killing me and any one over the age of 18 you cant get a straight answer any where to their questions my 90 year old father cant function any more not because of physical or mental ability’s but because the technology of life is beyond him as it is many older people if you don’t know how to use a computer or a mobile phone you cannot pay your bills or get your central heating fixed or any number of things so you become dependent on your younger relatives or friends or care givers if you have them or can afford them it makes you vulnerable and at risk. Even though you are still mentally capable.

Love the irony of this, vis-à-vis the medium of presentation
That’s what I mean my dad cant make these comments for him self he cant use a computer he shakes so much he can just about type and sign stuff when he has to try and use press this button stuff he cant do it quick enough for the automated services and throws the phone across the room in frustration then his shakes get worse but his brain still active he still gets mad about political and social stuff much the same as I do Blames me and my generation for letting it happen. I ask my self did I let it happen? I embraced it!I but little realized that what had gone before would be largely wiped out and leave many crippled in a bureaucratic world of e-mail on line job hunting, tax returns, banking and shopping.
How many people over the age of 60 have a brand band internet contention or know how to use it if they had it how to set up their lap top, tablet I pad or PC. For many it is beyond them and their comprehension.
Being old in London is no fun for most so keeping the maximum staff levels on the underground would be off assistance to the elderly and the disabled or vulnerable women or gays it also means there is a independent uniformed force that is keeping an eye on the police who tend to shoot people on the underground as we saw with panic around 7/7 and an innocent Brazilian.
Technology may be able to help the elderly by giving us exoskeletons monitor our homes if we fall but it will not assist those who cannot afford it or have the knowledge to use it. So there will be a class of people around the world who will be left behind and wasted by this change in our interaction with the world many will die because of the transfer to a fully technological world. This will occur because we as a race have not had the foresight to see and deal with the problems the fast moving changes that the new technology brings
