It is not that surprising that the police behaved so badly over the Stephen Lawrence affair as the perpetrators of this crime where the children of some known criminal underworld and drug gangs. Fathers some of whom are believed to have been informers under police protection. If you follow the story and connect the names and the dotes its reasonably obvious that the met police at the time did not want to upset the safe running of their operations or the safety of their informants and under cover officers so Stephen would have been treated as collateral damage if his family and friends had not kept pressing for the truth.
