It goes without saying that Stanstead Airport is getting into the race to get its flights increased so that it can cash in on the Olympic Bonanza
-
Not sufficient that the dumping of excess fuel as they come in to land is slowly killing off Hatfield forest the last largest stand of woodland in the south east of England.
-
Not that there record on fuel spillage on the ground is that good how long ago was it that they killed all the fish in the river Stort.
-
Given that we are more aware of Global Warming than ever and we all know that the quickest way to increase the problem is to increase the number of flights.
-
The level of pollution one air flight gives out on medium haul route is equivalent to what a normal family car produces in a whole year.
-
The noise and disruption to the local environment and the local population.
With all the politicians wanting to show how green they can be! Where are they on the issue of enlarged air ports or more flights!
Sea travel is far less of a polluter and employs more people and is in effect more able to control in coming numbers in terms of immigration.
So why are we even contemplating letting an airport expand for a event that will be over in a short two weeks.
It could of course be that they are expecting Heathrow to be under water by then due to global warming or soon after Its an interesting thing that the spoil from the tunnel has been brought to Stratford and has created in effect an island of raised land about 40foot above the original level for the Olympic village to be built on just to the east of the mouth of the river Lea.
Given the flooding that occurred in the lower lea valley in I think it was 1998 November but forgive me If I am wrong on the highest autumn tide for some years with heavy rain prior to it its a wise move to put the village on hinger ground they closed the barrier on the Thames that night and did not close the barrier on the Roding so the more destructive flooding was through the Roding valley as it took the tidal waters. The Lea flooding was just due to the heavy rain as it was trapped behind the Thames barrier.
All this and they still want more plans in the air.
When it is clear that the major contributor to the global warming problem is the amount of air transportation in particular the jet engine problem.
