It seems to me that we are now in the age where there are more than enough proven ways the Government could do things to help with the environment. So why don’t they ? Any new buildings being built should be subject to being not only energy effcient but actually energy producing for example solar power generators should be part of their construction in the case of the buildings being built for the Olympics all of them should be self sustaing in energy tghe stadium should have its own wind generators and solar aray. Also all buildings should be grey water efficient and the whole site should have its own water recycling facilities.
All new roads projects should be built with the road surface used as heat storage to services local housing and building projects as a standard practice all roadway lighting should be designed to cut light pollution and to supply there own solar power to run the lighting needs of highway lighting and singes.
All open spaces that are vacant for more than six months and look likely to remain so for more than three years should be planted with trees unless good reason can be showen as to why this should not happen and no new building should be allowed on any site with out a quota of trees to be included in any scheam.
No new airports should be built and active encouragement should be given to the building of new ports and the introduction of passenger shipping and air ship technology should be introduce.
Video conferencing should be encouraged and all international meetings of government should be restricted to an absolute minimum.
One of my favourite ideas why are gyms not energy self sufficient ? All that work on the tread mills like hamsters should be able to power some thing surely even if it is just the air conditioning. who knows big enough gym might even be able to sell power back to the national grid.
No planning permission for large supermarkets and lower business rates for small local shops and businesses, to encourage resourcing of local products and reduce the reliance on goods transported long distances.
Removal of all incentives to haul goods over long road distances and a return to rail, sea and canal transport construction of new canals could assist in saving large areas from going under in the rising water levels due to existing global warming.
This is just a few of the more obvious ideas that would be reasonably easy to implement if any government had a real commitment to the need to reverse the current slide into disaster that we are facing if I as an under educated 55 year old can see the sense in these and other suggestion that are currently being discussed by the friends and public around me then where are the government brains and the business community’s brains in all this I think most of them are sitting on them in luxury or on a tropical beach some where drinking them selves silly and not giving a shit about what is happening.
Ah well come the disaster It may be us and the cockroaches as I have said before Or may be its time for the Green Jhaid come all you pagans. |
